A Travel story from the last German dive group which came to visit Okinawa in March 2011. The theme of the trip was mainly to celebrate 150 years of Friendship between our two country’s Germany and Japan.
>>150 Jahre Freundschaft Deutschland-Japan Tauchreise(PDF)

As of recent tragic events in Japan, the number of divers coming from Germany and all over Europe decreased a lot, so I would like to encourage all the divers, to come again to Okinawa Japan, travel groups are welcome too.
Please keep in mind that Japan is a very big country and we in Okinawa are located in the southern tip of this country, far away from all the trouble.
The SeaDoo scooters are excellent for scuba diving as well as your snorkeling adventure on Okinawa.
Please watch the video for a demonstration on our “SeaDoo vs. Supercharged” DPV’s.
Why to use a DPV (Diver propulsion vehicle)?
• Cover wider distances underwater as on the surface.
• Swim against a moderate current or long distances without getting tired.
• 4 units available for you and your friends to have fun together.
• To have great fun and try something new.
• 2 dives with the DPV and you can get the PADI DPV specialty diver rating?

Piranha Divers now offers Snorkeling/skin diving programs on a regular basis!
This program is designed for people who for various reasons would much rather explore Okinawa’s underwater world from the surface than from underwater.
Your flight on the next day often prevents you from Scuba diving but not from enjoying Okinawa’s beautiful underwater world.
Certain medical conditions may exclude you from diving, but snorkeling might be just perfect for you as it holds only very limited risks and is enjoyed by a majority of individuals loving to see what the sea has to offer.
Your child is younger than 14 years old? Than snorkeling might be a suitable option before going into Scuba diving. As we think that children under the age of 14 are not necessary yet ready to scuba dive as there bodies are not yet developed to a level comparable with adults.
This program cost’s 5000Yen/person. Included are Mask, Snorkel and Fins. The entire program takes on average 2hours but it is not necessary limited to this timeframe. Wetsuits to keep you warm and afloat can be rented for 1000Yen.
You can rent a digital camera for 3000Yen, this includes a disk with all you pictures in the end of the day, if you have to leave quick, we will mail you the disk at NO extra cost – anywhere in the world.

Looking to replace your old SCUBA BCD?
We now offer DSS custom made scuba gear on order. Features of such a back-plate BCD include:
• You will be much more streamlined in the water, because of an even weight distribution.
• A solid and simple design which makes the unit almost unbreakable and shrinks maintaining efforts to a minimum.
• The unit “grows” with your diving style and experience, today you put a single tank bladder tomorrow a double tank bladder – very easy, the plate and you personal configurations stay the same.
Most divers tried once and never used another type of BCD again, ever.
Units come in all sizes with options as preferred (please inquire) cost per unit is around 50,000Yen including shipping and tax. (This is less than half the cost of a normal type BCD in Japan)

Recently, Paul from Michigan, USA, finished the Open Water Diver course with me.
Paul is a marine scientist at the University of Michigan and comes to Okinawa each year for his research. For that work and also to enjoy more the reefs here, he decided to go beyond snorkeling and learn Scuba diving. He took his classroom and pool dive training at Huron Scuba, one of the top-rated dive shops in the USA.
Huron Scuba, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, offers diving in the Great Lakes, ice diving as well as wreck diving. I have never been to America, but this seems like an experience well worth trying someday, since we do not have ice or lake diving in Okinawa.

After hesitating in 2010, we now decided to enable locals and people who temporary work on Okinawa to rent out dive gear from us and going diving on their own.
You can rent a whole set of dive gear for 5000Yen/day and only 750Yen for each tank.
You will be required to show your diving license as well as fill out the mandatory paperwork. Please bring your Credit card or Passport as a deposit.
All Locals will receive a 10% discount if they choose to dive with me, this is not valid for the Open Water Diver Course or for renting out gear separately.
Please contact us for further information.

Okinawa’s hotels and public places are usually short of a free internet connection.
Piranha Divers now offers a free WIFI internet service to everyone visiting us here to dive. Just make sure to bring your Laptop or smart phone or any other device capable of wireless internet access.
Please contact us for more information about our service.
We are shocked about the tragic events that happened in northern Japan on March 11th, and hereby offer our condolences to all the people affected.
The good news is that we are about 3000km away from all the trouble and Okinawa was NOT hit by an earthquake or a tsunami. As well as there will not be any problem with nuclear radiation here; Okinawa still relies on coal powered plants.
We are open for business; the weather is getting better so please help us and our young business by not giving up on traveling and diving in Japan, and we will DONATE 5% of our income for the next 6 month to the ongoing efforts in northern Japan!
Best regards
Jan and Tomoko – Piranha Divers Okinawa

From March 2011 Piranha Divers is offering a 5% discount to all the divers from Europe who will pay in European currency (€) and in cash.
We hope to support divers who suffer from less than ideal credit card and exchange rates.
Please contact us for more information about our Rates etc.

Your dive training in the winter at Piranha Divers will be easier since we have a swimming pool available now. Water temperature is about 26°C so there is no reason to feel cold or even stay dry while wind and weather don’t play along.
The pool is 3m deep and located at Manza Intercontinental hotel; cost is 500Yen/hour/person. You will have access to hot showers, free towels and an area to wash your gear.

To all the divers who have been diving with us and the divers who are going to dive with us in the future or considering becoming one.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year with a lot’s of happy dives, big fish and sunshine in 2011.
All the best for a successful new year!

The German divers group which was visiting Okinawa in October was the first group of divers of its kind ever visiting us.
A picture of The German divers group.
If you prefer to book true an agent you can contact the guys at drop-off to get everything you need as a whole package.

The last typhoon about a week ago was hitting quiet strong and made diving impossible but now the typhoon season should be over. Water is a little bit cooler now but therefore visibility increases. Remember the water never gets colder than 21 C in Okinawa but that point has not yet been reached, anyways you can dive all year around here.
A picture of the Cape Manza during the last typhoon in October.

My ear is getting better and there is a lot of diving to come in October!
Our first German travel group will be here with 6 divers from Germany for 2 weeks and at least 20 amazing dives at the Kerama Islands, the USS Emmons and at Cape Hedo.
Please contact us for more information about diving accommodation, group rates etc.

Are you a good diver?
Do you have a Japanese driving license?
You help to carry around some of the divers and get 20 free dives.
Please contact us for details about requirements, dates etc.

We are now able refer divers to a dive shop on Ishigaki Island which is popular for their bi-lingual dive service.
Ishigaki Island is a very popular among divers for the high chance of Diving with Manta Rays, there is an 80% chance of seeing Mantas at the manta cleaner station.
Even you are not much of a diver you a can enjoy superb natural views and observe a very peaceful and slow live on tropical Ishigaki Island.
Please contact us for more information about diving accommodation, group rates etc.

Our goal was to combine a professional design and a relaxed atmosphere for divers.
All thanks to our friend Anthony who designed and drew this for us, under circumstances which were not always favorable such as humidity and rain. Now you can clearly indicate on where to find us.
This design will also appear on some of our Piranha Divers Okinawa merchandise in the near future.

We now got a new car to haul you and all the dive gear around on Okinawa, Toyota is made in Japan and one of the most reliable cars used worldwide today. We where to busy diving and overloaded our old car with a lot of tanks, dive-gear and divers.
Now its high season in Okinawa so we like to remind you of awesome warm water temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius, and visibilities of up to 30m. Diving at its best – Okinawa, Japan

We now present diving in Okinawa with Piranha Divers to an even bigger range of English and Japanese speaking dive enthusiasts. Visit us on Outdoor Japan, One of the biggest bilingual adventure magazines in Japan.
Outdoor Japan recommends you to:
“Ride your bike. Take a bath. Drink good beer. Paddle. Dance in the rain. Go outside and play.”
I’d rather tell you to:
“Drink your milk, eat your vegetables, shut up and dive”
Either way, its summer now so let’s get out of the house away from the TV and dive into natures beauty found only on Okinawa; hope to see you soon – underwater.

Diving on the Sunabe Seawall is fun, nice soft-corals in a moon like landscape, similar to the landscape of “Super Mario”. This dive-site is good for almost all basic training activities and also great for fun diving. It features a wall which has some “cutouts” just like steps and you could argue if they are handmade or made by nature? These structures even made it into National Geographic before!
After diving we often enjoy the “Hamayama Soba” just around the corner from the site, I do recommend it because of two reasons first of all they offer very delicious noodles (Soba) for very good prices. Second off all you can eat there while wearing your wetsuit.

We will be looking for the whaleshark again in the Kerama Islands, please join us, and enjoy a 10% discount on our regular rates for the rest of June 2010.
At the previous encounter the whaleshark suddenly appeared below our boat and we got a chance to swim with it for about 30 minutes before it went off. Everybody was trilled and happy.

Don't get bent in Okinawa! We now have a full set of Emergency Oxygen available to help you out in the unlikely event that you experience any case of DCI while diving with Piranha Divers Okinawa.
Please notice that it is not easy to get medical O2 anymore in Japan. That's why many of the local shops may be able to provide a bandage to you, but almost never 100% O2 in case of a more serious dive incident.
Also there are a few Decompression Chambers on Okinawa which can treat divers, just make sure you dive insurance is up to date.

For everyone who had a hard time finding the way to our shop or is about to come here to go diving with us, now we have new way sings leading you to Piranha Divers Okinawa. You don’t have to follow “the white rabbit” (the Matrix) but once you turned into Kibougaoka from Road 58, you should follow the fins with our logo, leading you directly to our shop. It’s a little bit hidden but surrounded by trees and nature it’s a good learning environment with a relaxing atmosphere.

We now offer to everyone interested the PADI DPV specialty course; This course can be done in 1 day and consists of only 2 open water dives. Why should you join? It’s easy to understand, as a DPV diver you are able to cover a much bigger area underwater – see much more marine live, as well as conserve your air – you will be less exhausted so you can stay longer underwater as well as it is a lot of fun probably comparable to an underwater dirt bike.

We now offer you to purchase a T-shirt or a traditional “Tenugi” towel with a unique design of the ocean and our company logo.
This would be the perfect memory of you dive holyday here in Okinawa, Japan.
The price for the “Tenugi” is only 1,500 Yen and the T-shirt cost only 3,000 Yen available in size S, M, L.
