Onna offers some of the best diving spots in Okinawa. Most of the sites are accessible by boat and some are accessible from the shore.
The Blue Cave at Cape Maeda is very popular for snorkelers and divers. This cave is about 40 meters long, and very high, so you can surface at any time. Once you enter, everything appears very blue because of the refracted sunlight.
There are many other diving spots available here, including Horseshoe, which is an excellent drop off to a maximum depth of over 40 meters. Horseshoe is a great spot for night diving, as well as stargazing afterward. The sky is filled with beautiful stars.
Training dives take place at two sites very close to our shop. One is on Nakama beach, where the sea is rather shallow, with a maximum depth of three meters. It is perfect for all the confined open-water sections of your dive training. Just around the corner you find many other diving opportunities, such as Manza Dream Hole - a 25-meter deep hole with a horizontal exit at about 30 meters. There are many black-striped sweeper fish here. At Horseshoe Point, there are man-size crevices, canyons, and small arches to dive through.
In the winter, when the waves are too high, we will dive at Kin Red. There you can see, living amid the wreck of an old car and many old bottles, nudibranches, sea urchins, and lionfish. This is a good dive for macro photographers and people who like the “small stuff.” After the dive we usually go to the taco rice restaurant in the town of Kin. Kin is popular for its large, delicious servings of taco rice.
At “Gorilla Chop” near Motobu, just 20 minutes from our shop, the sea is usually calm. There are many rocks with soft corals on top. It’s an excellent spot for first-time divers to discover the joys of scuba.
Whaleshark Diving, Yomitan
Did you ever wanted to dive with whalesharks? You can do so here in Okinawa in a confined environment just like in a zoo – but underwater. The trip starts at the Yomitan fishery port, a 5 minutes trip in the calm waters close to the port brings you to the area where the whalesharks are living, shurley no chance of getting seasick. The location is great for Divers and Snorkelers. Diving time is approximately 30minutes.
