Prerequisites: Minimum Age:
- Master Scuba Diver 15, Divemaster and Instructor 18

Certification Requirements:
Master Scuba Diver:
- Provide proof of 50 logged dives, Rescue Diver License, 4 specialty course ratings
Divemaster:
- Provide proof of 60 logged dives, CPR/First Aid Training same as Instructor
Instructor:
- Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months.
- Provide proof of 100 logged dives.
- Be certified as a SDI Divemaster, SDI Assistant Instructor, or equivalent.
- Provide proof of current First Response Adult and Child Emergency Care Provider and Oxygen Administration Provider certification or equivalent.

Medical:
Master Scuba Diver, DM and Instructor:
- Must be able to answer “No” to all questions on the medical statement
DM and Instructor:
- Must get "fit for diving" clearance from a doctor, before the course starts.

Please Note:

  1. The course will start between 7:30 and 9:00AM at the dive shop and finish at approximately 15:00-17:00PM each day. Please plan accordingly.
  2. All students must have ability to swim and feel comfortable in the water! All participants must be able to tread water for 10 minutes and swim a distance of 200m, independently without stopping or the help of swimming aids. All swimming exercises will be performed in water to deep to stand up in.
  3. Divemaster and Instructor swimming requirements are greater. An 800m/yards swim and a 400m/yard snorkel exercise is required as well as other tasks of that level.
  4. The inability to meet the swimming requirements will result in not being able to participate any further in the relevant course!
  5. Confined Water Training and swimming exercises will take place at a beach in the ocean, not in a pool.
  6. Training is offered in English! Online training materials are available in many languages.
  7. Training is purchased, certification is earned, no refunds will be given if you cannot meet the training requirements.
  8. Unlimited Shore Diving is available to participants who have a buddy and the means to transport scuba gear to the divesite independently and at least 10 dives experience.
  9. Solo Diving is possible, participants must have 100 dives experience and their personal scuba gear to get certified. Nitrox/O2 is available at an extra cost.
  10. Participation in an Internship program does not constitute an employment contract with Piranha Divers.
  11. Participants of any internship can enjoy 10-20% discount on personal scuba gear purchases.

Whale Shark Diving

We believe every responsible diver should refrain from diving with caged whale sharks in Okinawa!

  • Whale sharks are an endangered species
  • Whale sharks are not fed adequately
  • Sharp corals growing on the netted cage, injuring the whale sharks every day
